The Water Leak Sensor 2 is a "rope" type water leak sensor. It has an integral alarm sounder, use of which is optional. Additional ropes/cords can be added, to expand the detection region. As a rope type sensor, this sensor is a frequent choice if:
- water detection is needed in a confined space, such as between an appliance like a built-in icemaker or refrigerator and the wall.
- water detection is needed in a defined region, such as around a water heater or a sump pump
- water detection is required in several adjacent regions such as both under a bathroom sink and around a toilet, or under a kitchen sink and around a dishwasher (with optional extension cords, the area of water leak detection can be expanded)
Tips:
- The Water Leak Sensor 2 is not a good choice for water level monitoring (consider our Water Level Monitoring Sensor).
- The Water Leak Sensor 2 may not be a good choice for high-humidity areas, as it very high humidity levels can cause false alerts (particularly if extension cords are added, which can increase water sensitivity).
- Cable Whip: 3.93 feet (1.2 meters), can be extended up to at least 328 feet (100 meters)
- The rope can take an extended period to dry on its own after getting wet. Drying it with a hairdryer can speed up the process, but it is recommended to have spare ropes on hand - you can replace the wet one with a dry one, to immediately reset the sensor.
- If a more secure or tamper-resistant installation is required, and/or for use in public locations, apartments, rental properties, condos, etcetera, we recommend the use of the optional Ruggedized Wall-Mount Bracket for this sensor. While the included hangar (with peel & stick backing) will be suitable for most applications and mounting surfaces, the wall-mount bracket is screwed to the wall, and then holds the sensor, holster-style. Also, the bracket is designed to hold the cable/rope in place. The sensor is protected against casual tampering, and accidental removal from the wall (due to being kicked, or a towel thrown on it, etc.). For a more tamper-resistant and secure installation, consider theWater Leak Sensor 4MoveAlert sensor.
