Detect Water Early
Place leak sensors near floors, pans, cabinets, appliances, and utility areas where water is likely to appear first.

Application Example
Pair YoLink leak sensors with a compatible valve solution for local YoLink D2D shutoff, while the YoLink Hub enables app setup, remote alerts, history, and device management.
Automatic shutoff depends on compatible products, correct installation, D2D pairing, valve compatibility, and routine testing.

How It Works
YoLink helps connect leak detection with local valve shutoff and configurable remote alerts.

Place leak sensors near floors, pans, cabinets, appliances, and utility areas where water is likely to appear first.

After D2D pairing, a leak sensor can send a local close command to a compatible valve device.

Based on your YoLink alert settings, you can receive app push notifications, SMS, and email alerts, while the app shows device status and history.
YoLink D2D
YoLink D2D is the key technology behind this application example. After setup, compatible YoLink devices can trigger local device-to-device actions directly, so a leak sensor can command a paired valve device even when internet service is unavailable.
When both paired devices are battery-powered and properly configured, the local D2D action can continue without home internet or AC power. The YoLink Hub and app are still used for setup, remote notifications, history, device management, and full smart features.

Valve Options
Start with the installation method. Some shutoff solutions are installed directly into the water line and require pipe cutting, while retrofit options can work with an existing compatible ball valve.

For new or planned plumbing installations.
An all-in-one motorized valve installed directly into the water line. Requires correct pipe sizing and professional installation.

For controller-based inline shutoff.
Use a YoLink valve controller with a compatible motorized ball valve purchased for the setup.
Controller options: YS5001 or YS5003.

For existing compatible lever-style ball valves.
Use a YoLink valve controller with a valve operator to turn the existing valve without cutting the pipe.
Operator options: YS5004EVO or Bulldog Valve Robot. Controller options: YS5001 or YS5003.
Not all valves fit every home. Always check pipe size, valve type, available space, power requirements, and installation instructions before choosing a valve solution.
Placement Priority
There is no universal ranking for every home. These are practical residential placement priorities because they combine water supply, hidden locations, or long unattended periods.
Pan, nearby floor, utility closet.
Supply hoses and floor area.
Hidden drips under kitchen or bath sinks.
Ice maker or water dispenser supply.
Cabinet toe-kick and nearby flooring.
Basement floor and pump area.
Tank, supply line, and floor edge.
Vacation homes, rentals, and second homes.
Data note: According to EPA WaterSense, the average household's leaks can waste nearly 10,000 gallons of water per year. Placement categories here are practical risk-priority areas for residential leak detection, not a guarantee of event frequency for every home.
Recommended Water Shutoff Setup
This gives shoppers a simple starting point before they choose the exact sensor model and valve solution for their plumbing.
Enables app setup, remote alerts, history, and device management.
Place near water heaters, sinks, laundry areas, appliances, and basement risk areas.
Choose an inline valve or no-cut valve operator setup based on your plumbing.
Add audible alerts for people on-site. Requirements vary by device.
Build The Setup
Use YoLink leak detection, Alarm Strategy, and D2D valve control to build a practical automatic water shutoff workflow.
