Hubs

For full functionality, including operation of the app and phone notifications, each device must wirelessly connect to one of our two hubs. The Hub is the only device that connects to your network and to the internet. You can learn more about this technology on our Discover page.

Please select at least one hub, either our original YoLink Hub or our SpeakerHub audio/talking hub (suggested), or one of the starter kits.

Please Note: both hubs require a full-time internet connection for full functionality of the system and app. The YoLink Hub works with Ethernet and/or WiFi, while the SpeakerHub is WiFi (2.4 GHz), only.

For a side-by-side comparison of our two hubs, click here

For more info on the hubs, click the hub image below, or click here for the YoLink Hub or here for the SpeakerHub.

In-Wall Switches

One of the most popular initial forays into one's first smart home is a smart plug or light switch. Team it up with a smart motion sensor and you have not only convenience (a light turning on automatically), but sometimes safety (added security against things that sometimes happen in the dark, whether it's a trespasser, burglar or just your dog picking an unfortunate place to take a nap!), and almost always, savings (turn lights off if there is no one in the room to use them). This can show up on your power bill -- these devices can pay for themselves (hint, hint).

Interested in the Dimmer Switches? Consider our new DimmerFob, below.

Do Try This at Home!

Consider making your bathrooms a little smarter. Replace the light switch(es) and exhaust fan with smart switches. A very basic thing you can do is automatically turn the lights and fans off after they've been on X minutes (where "X" is a number you've defined in advance). Set them for 20 minutes, for example, and you will at least prevent them from staying on needlessly for hours and hours and hours (if you are a parent with children under the age of 25, I figure you know what I mean!).

A next step is to automate turning on the lights, and also keeping them on if there is someone using the bathroom (this is known as an "occupancy sensor"). This is typically done with motion sensors. Door sensors can be used in this application, too, considering if the door is closed, the bathroom is most-likely occupied.

The next step in your smart bathroom plans might be to automate the exhaust fan based on humidity or temperature. Using one of our temperature and humidity sensors, you can configure automations to turn the fan on before the room steams up. (You will need to fine-tune this to your ambient humidity levels, which will vary with the seasons, but this works really nicely, and it's very convenient, when you have it set up properly).

Think that's all you can do? Well, aside from the obvious automation of detecting a water leak in the bathroom, and shutting off the water automatically (we can do that!), did you know you can detect an internal toilet leak? Our Water Leak Sensor 3, also referred to as the Water Level Monitoring Sensor, can be used to monitor the normal water level in a toilet tank. Once set up, it can keep track of each time the toilet was flushed or refilled (this is stored in historical logs in the app) and it can alert you to a toilet that takes too long to refill. And if criteria of yours are met, you can have one of our smart water valve controllers turn off the water to the house (or zone, floor, etc.).

Plugs & Outlets

"Make it smart" with one of our smart plugs or outlets! Lamps, Christmas/holiday lighting, coffee makers, fish tank/aquarium/pet habitat lighting, and so much more, can benefit from smart scheduling, remote control and automation. Consider the Plug Mini: economical, easy to install, and portable - take it with you when you move, or move it to a new location and duty, if your needs change!

Relays & Outputs

We offer several options for controlling low-voltage and high-voltage devices and equipment:

Our In-Wall Switch can be used to control 120V loads, or a 120 VAC coil relay or contactor (that can control low- or high-voltage circuits). The In-Wall Switch has a benefit of offering local on/off control of the circuit, in addition to the other ways, such as from the phone app, Alexa, etc.

Our Smart Relay can control a 120 or less volt coil relay or load, up to 5 amps at 120 VAC. The Relay is a 5-30VDC-powered device, with no battery back-up. A power adapter is included. The Relay can, for example, be powered by USB power. The Relay has one set of normally-open contacts. If normally-closed contacts are required, furnish a 12VDC coil relay, for example an "ice cube" relay, that has XPDT contacts, where "DT" is "double-throw" and "XP" is single-pole ("SP") or double-pole("DP"). (Each pole is a set of "Form-C" contacts: common, normally-open and normally-closed).

Another alternative is to use an Alarm Controller as a relay controller. Our Alarm Controllers, two types, are typically sold as a kit, with a siren. If used as a relay controller, simply cut the siren off the wire, and splice the wire conductors to your 12VDC coil relay (not included). If used this way, we recommend the use of a mechanically-latching 12VDC coil relay, or limit the duration of use to short periods, as the controller battery (which powers the controller itself and any electrical loads) from the same batteries. Our X3 Alarm Controller, with 10-year replaceable lithium batteries, may be a better choice for applications with extended on time. An obvious benefit of this method is the controllers are wireless (while the Relay is not); no additional wiring is required.

Power Fail Alarms

Our Power Fail Alarm can monitor USB or 120VAC power, as well as other voltages with the use of a USB adapter compatible with the power source. Get notified audibly when power is removed from the sensor. If the PFA has an internet connection via the Hub or SpeakerHub, receive a notification on your phone (app push, SMS or email) immediately. If the power outage removes power and internet from the hub, you will receive a notification in ~30 minutes. Additionally, trigger remote sirens, such as the Siren Alarm, below, or control YoLink devices on power loss, using automation (internet required) or Control-D2D device-to-device pairing.

Remote Control

You have many ways to control your YoLink devices, including but not limited to manually from the app, via automation (e.g. motion sensors turning on the lights), via Alexa, Google Assistant, IFTTT and Home Assistant (if applicable to you). But if that is not enough for you, we do offer three tactile methods of controlling your devices.

Our new DimmerFob was designed to exclusively work with your Dimmer Switches. Pair one or more Dimmer Switches to the fob, then remotely control your light switches from the convenience of your location, in addition to from the app and at the Dimmer Switches.

Our AlarmFob and its sister device, the FlexFob offer control of your devices and so much more. The AlarmFob has pre-programmed security system buttons, like arm, disarm, and panic, but each button can have a second function, depending on your short or long press. The FlexFob is meant to be more of a blank slate for you and it can perform device control and security functions as well as it can trigger an Alexa routine and IFTTT applets. Sound like Greek to you? Don't worry, we don't force you to get that fancy, if you don't want. But either fob can be used to control any of your YoLink devices, and even together at the same time. Would you like to lock the door and turn on some lights when you close the garage door, or unlock the door leading from the garage door to the house, and turn on lights as you open the door? Can-do! Gate control? For sure! Of course, arming your security devices or disarming them automatically with your fob button press is super-easy.

Our fobs go on a keychain ring easily. The AlarmFob comes with a two piece bracket that together can be used to make a car visor clip for the fobs, and one bracket can be used as a wall-mount bracket. Convenient!

Better Together

Sometimes, like bread is to butter, two things are better together. As mentioned, a smart Motion Sensor can be used to automatically turn on a light when you enter the room, and it can also turn the light off if there has not been motion detected for X number of minutes (where "X" is a number defined by you).

Here are some other things you might try:

Use a Door Sensor to turn on the lights in a room or closet, walk-in pantry, etcetera. Optionally, use the same sensor to turn the light off when the door is closed. You might use a door sensor to turn the light on, and a motion sensor detecting no motion to turn it off.
