Q: Can I manually operate the valve?
A: Yes. The valve has a manual operation knob on the top.
Q: Are the batteries replaceable?
A: Yes. The battery cover is accessible from the top of the motorized valve. Open the cover using a small or medium sized Phillips screwdriver.
Q: Is this weather-resistant, can it be used outside?
A: Yes, it is weather-resistant and it can be used outdoors.
Q: Can the YS4909 YoLink Valve Controller be used outdoors?
A: Yes, the YS4909 YoLink Valve Controller can be used outdoors. However, it is important to note that the IP63 rating provides limited protection against water ingress. It is recommended to install the device in a location where it will not be exposed to heavy rain or water submersion.
Q: What is the IP rating of the YS4909 YoLink Valve Controller? What is the IP rating of Motorized Ball Valve?
A: The IP rating of YS4909 YoLink Valve Controller is IP63, the IP rating of Motorized Ball Valve is IP65.
Q: Does YoLink Valve Controller support YoLink Control?
A: Yes, the YoLink Valve Controller supports YoLink Control, for example, enabling you to pair it with a YoLink water leak sensor. When the sensor detects a water leak, the valve will automatically shut off without requiring power or internet. However, if there is no internet connection, you won't be able to control the valve controller through the YoLink App, and Alexa routines will not function either.
Q: How does the YoLink valve controller operate a 12V valve with a 6V battery pack?
A: The YoLink valve controller uses 4 AA batteries, providing a 6VDC power supply. These AA batteries are commonly available and low-cost. The valve controller's circuit board includes a power boost IC, which converts the 6VDC input to a 12VDC output, allowing it to operate the 12V valve effectively.
Q: How can I close the valve when the sensor detects water?
A: There are two ways to close the valve when the sensor detects water:
Create automation in the YoLink app (requires internet connection):
When: Water leak sensor detects a water leak (triggers an alert)
Then: Valve controller closes the valve
Set up YoLink Control, make sure the firmware of the valve controller is 090e or newer (no internet required):
First, close the valve. Next, press and hold the set button on the water leak sensor until the green LED starts blinking rapidly. Then, press and hold the set button on the valve controller until its green LED also blinks rapidly. This establishes a direct connection between the devices without the need for an internet connection.
Q: Is it necessary to cut off the pipeline for motorized valve installation?
A: No, it is not necessary to cut off the pipeline for motorized valve installation. The installation depends on the actual installation scene. Some water pipes have threaded connections, allowing the motorized valve to be directly screwed in. You can install the valve yourself or ask a plumber to handle it.
Q: What are the advantages of using a motorized valve?
A:
a. The controller directly controls the opening and closing of the motorized valve, ensuring accurate operation and preventing position deviations that can occur with a manipulator (such as incomplete opening or closing).
b. Motorized valves can be used to control water pipes up to 2 inches in diameter, providing flexibility for various pipe sizes.
c. The motorized valve is directly connected to the water pipe for installation, avoiding potential issues related to different pipe valve sizes that can arise when using a manipulator (e.g., insufficient height of the mounting bracket).
Q: The closed and open positions are reversed on my valve, and the app shows the wrong status. How can I fix this?
A: The reversed open and closed positions on your motorized valve are likely due to misaligned connectors between the female and male 2-pin connectors. To fix this issue, ensure that the slot between the connectors is properly aligned. This should correct the valve's operation and display the accurate status in the app.
Q: What are the differences between the YS4909, YS5001, and YS5003 Valve Controllers?
A: The primary differences between the YS4909, YS5001, and YS5003 Valve Controllers are in their battery life and power options:
YS4909: This valve controller has a battery life of up to 2 years, and it relies on battery power.
YS5001: This valve controller features an extended battery life of up to 10 years, providing longer-lasting performance without the need for frequent battery replacements.
YS5003: Similar to the YS4909, this valve controller has a battery life of up to 2 years. However, it also includes an AC adapter, offering an alternative power source besides battery power. It is also more powerful than YS4909.
Q: Can the valve controller be mounted on either side of the shutoff valve?
A: Yes, the valve controller can be mounted on either side of the shutoff valve, providing flexibility for installation based on your specific setup and requirements.
Q: How can I set an alarm to notify me when the valve is opening or closing?
A: To set an alarm for valve opening and closing notifications, follow these steps in the YoLink app:
Open the YoLink app and navigate to the "Smart" section.
Tap "Automation" and create two separate automations: one for valve opening and another for valve closing.
For Automation1 (valve opening):
a. Set the trigger: "When device actions" -> "Valve controller" -> "Open".
b. Add the desired behavior: "Notification" -> "Custom notification content".
c. Select the alarm strategy: App, email, and/or SMS, as preferred.
For Automation2 (valve closing):
a. Set the trigger: "When device actions" -> "Valve controller" -> "Close".
b. Add the desired behavior: "Notification" -> "Custom notification content".
c. Select the alarm strategy: App, email, and/or SMS, as preferred.
By following these steps, you'll receive notifications when the valve is opening or closing based on your chosen notification preferences.
Q: Does YoLink offer lead-free valves?
A: Yes, YoLink offers lead-free valves in various sizes, including 0.75-inch, 1-inch, 1.5-inch, and 2-inch options. You can purchase these lead-free valves from their website or on Amazon, depending on your preference.
Q: Is there a larger clamp for the Bulldog bracket to fit a 1.5-inch water main?
A: Yes, there is a larger bracket available for the Bulldog system, which can accommodate a 1.5-inch water main. You can find the HC2XXL custom bracket by visiting this link: https://shop.yosmart.com/products/econet-bulldog-custom-bracket-hc2xxl
Q: My ball valve controller shows as offline in the app, even after replacing the batteries with a different type. Is there a workaround to get it back online?
A: First, make sure your YoLink app is up to date. Then, remove the old batteries and press the button several times to discharge the capacitors before installing new, non-rechargeable batteries. If the issue persists after these steps, please contact YoLink customer support for further assistance.
Q: How do I connect my valve controller and Bulldog ball valve to Google Assistant for voice commands?
A: To connect your valve controller and Bulldog ball valve to Google Assistant, follow these steps:
Open the YoLink app and go to "Smart" -> "Scene" to set up a new scene for opening the valve. Add behavior: "Valve controller" -> "Open".
Open the Google Home app and reconnect to YoLink. Next, go to "Routine" -> "Set up a new routine." Create a custom command for Google Assistant, such as "Hey Google, open the valve." Then, add action: "Adjust Home Devices" -> "Adjust scenes" -> add the "open the valve" scene you created in the YoLink app.
By following these steps, you'll be able to control your valve controller and Bulldog ball valve using voice commands through Google Assistant.
Q: Does the YS4909 YoLink valve controller work with U.S. Solid valves?
A: No, the YS4909 YoLink valve controller is not compatible with U.S. Solid valves. YoLink engineering found that U.S. Solid valves have an internal circuit board and capacitors. When the YoLink controller applies 12VDC to the U.S. Solid valve, it experiences a high rush current. However, the YoLink controller has built-in overcurrent protection, which stops providing power when it detects a high rush current. This incompatibility prevents the YoLink valve controller from working with U.S. Solid valves.
Q: Can I configure the Power Fail Alarm using YoLink Control D2D to turn off a water control valve in the event of a power failure?
A: Yes, you can set up YoLink Control between the Power Fail Alarm and the valve controller to turn off the water control valve during a power failure. Follow these steps:
Close your valve.
Press and hold the set button on the Power Fail Alarm for 5 seconds until the green LED starts blinking rapidly.
Press and hold the set button on the valve controller for 5 seconds until the green LED starts blinking rapidly.
By following these steps, you can configure the Power Fail Alarm to automatically turn off the water control valve when a power outage occurs.
Q: Can I manually operate the ball valve with the Bulldog valve controller installed?
A: Yes, you can manually operate the ball valve with the Bulldog valve controller installed. To do so, push and hold the clutch pin, then use the valve handle (recommended) or the robot handle to open or close the valve.
Q: I tried to add the Bulldog valve robot to my YoLink account by scanning the QR code, but it gave me an error. What should I do?
A: You should not scan the QR code on the Bulldog valve robot itself. Instead, scan the QR code on the YoLink Valve Controller. The valve controller is designed to work with the YoLink Hub, and it powers and controls the Bulldog valve robot. By scanning the QR code on the YoLink Valve Controller, you should be able to add it to your YoLink account without any issues.
Q: Is the Bulldog valve waterproof?
A: The Bulldog Valve Robot is not waterproof. If you need to protect it from water or moisture, we recommend using a weatherproof box to cover both the Bulldog and the valve controller.
Q: How can I automatically open the valve after the water has been removed?
A: You can set up an automation in the YoLink app to open the valve after all water sensors stop detecting water. Here's how:
Go to YoLink app -> Smart -> Automation -> create a new automation.
Choose the trigger: "When valve - close."
Add Behavior 1: "Break if when water sensor 1 - detected water."
Add Behavior 2: "Break if when water sensor 2 - detected water."
Continue adding similar behaviors for all your water sensors.
Add the final behavior: "Valve - open."
This automation will open the valve when it is closed and all the water sensors have stopped detecting water.
Q: My supply pipe to the house is 1 ⅝" OD copper pipe. Do I need a larger Bulldog bracket?
A: For information on valve and bracket sizing, please visit the following link:
https://www.econetshop.com/valves
The website will provide you with the necessary information to determine the appropriate bracket size for your 1 ⅝" OD copper pipe.
Q: I did not receive any notice that the valve had closed. Why did I get this still open notification?
A: The "still open" notification is designed for situations like watering, where it serves as a reminder to users that the valve remains open. If you have set up this feature on your main valve, you may receive this notification even if you did not close or open the valve. To avoid this, you should disable the "open remind" feature for your main valve.
